We have added four new awards to our trophy cabinet; two from the highly acclaimed International Beer Challenge (IBC) competition, a silver from the Society of Independent Brewers Association (SIBA) and we were winners of the local beer of the festival at CAMRA Reading Beer Festival.
In June we took our beers to the IBC which had more than 630 beers from 30 countries entering the competition. It was judged by UK beer experts including retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts, as well as highly experienced judges from continental Europe. Brews were entered from such far-flung places as Cambodia, Brazil, South Africa and Japan. Each was tasted blind by the expert panel and medals were awarded to the exceptional entries.
Chairman of the judges Jeff Evans said: “This has been a bumper year for the IBC. Not only have the number of beers entered rocketed, so has the standard of the entries.”
We were thrilled to find out that Maggs’ Magnificent Mild (3.8% ABV) and Saazbrucker Pilsner (4.9% ABV) both won Silver Awards at the IBC. Head brewer, Will Twomey, said “We are very proud of our range of beers and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to compete internationally against some of the finest beers from all over the world.”
In a whirlwind couple of months we also won a Silver in the SIBA South East Competition (small pack beer) for our Saazbrucker Pilsner. A total of 168 draught beers and 98 bottled were entered in the competition which was held at Juddians Rugby Club in Tonbridge on the 10th July.
Maggs’ Magnificent Mild bagged local beer of the festival award in the under 4.2% category at Reading Beer Festival which took place from 30th April – 3rd May. The local beers of the festival were judged by the CAMRA members themselves.
Simon Lewis, CEO, said “It really has been an amazing couple of months. We are delighted to have had the quality of our beers recognised both locally and internationally. It’s a testament to the brewery teams’ hard work and dedication. We are all very proud of these accomplishments.”
