This is the time of year for hard frosts, blue skies and glittering stars on dark cloudless nights. Most plants around us are in hibernation by now but you can still look out for next years leaf buds, fluffy catkins and mistletoe high up in the bare trees. If the birds haven’t got them all, you’ll still be able to pick out the brightly coloured hawthorn berries (great for wine making) and the deep purple sloes (Christmas 2020’s sloe gin or whiskey). Deep red holly berries will be out in full force against their dark green foliage plus a few rosehips linger on into the winter. With the branches free of leaves, it’s much easier to see birds and wild animals, watch for robins, pheasants, squirrels and Yattendon Estates herd of British White Cattle.

Park at the brewery, see what you can spot on a country walk and then hunker down with a pint of Holly Cutter and a bite to eat in the Taproom.

Family & dog friendly.
